At least 60 dead in Pakistan suicide attack

60 people have been killed and over 200 others injured in a suicide blast outside a public park in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore, health ministry officials said. Al Jazeera's Kamal Hyder, reporting from the capital, Islamabad, said that people from the Christian community were out to celebrate Easter in the park when the bomber detonated himself. Hyder added that the park is popular with families and children. The blast occurred at 6:40pm local time in the parking area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, a few metres away from children's swings, officials said on Sunday. Salman Rafique, a health adviser for the Punjab provincial government, told Reuters news agency that "most of the dead and injured are women and children". A suicide bomber has detonated his explosives belt at a football stadium south of the Iraqi capital, killing at least 29 people and injuring 60 others, the security head in Babel province has said. The blast in Iskandariya, a mixed Sunni and Shia Muslim town, happened around 16:15 GMT on Friday at the end of an amateur soccer game, said Falah al-Khafaji, the security head in Babel province. US forces kill ISIL second in command in Syria

Carter told at a press conference in Washington on Friday that the US forces had killed a senior ISIL leader known as Haji Iman, marking a further erosion of top leadership in the armed group, also known as ISIS, in Syria and Iraq. Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff died on Thursday at age 68 in Barcelona, Spain, his foundation said in a statement. The former Ajax, Barcelona and Holland star was diagnosed with lung cancer in late October. " On March 24, 2016, Johan Cruyff died peacefully in Barcelona, surrounded by his family after a hard-fought battle with cancer," the statement said. Two female suicide bombers detonated themselves during Wednesday prayers at a mosque in the Umurari area of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. According to preliminary data, a twin suicide bombing killed up to 25 Muslim worshippers and injured 18. The first bomber reportedly struck inside the mosque, while the second blew herself up outside as survivors tried to flee.  “This is to confirm that there were twin person-borne improvised explosive attack carried out by two female carriers in Ummarari village near Molai, outskirts of Maiduguri metropolis, Borno State, this morning. In the last 10 years we have returned $723m Abacha loot- Swiss govt says

The Swiss government says it has so far returned $723 million (about N142.43 billion) of the Abacha loot to the Nigerian government over the last 10 years. According to Premium Times, the Swiss government made this known in a memorandum of understanding it signed with the Nigerian government on March 8th. The repatriated funds is excluding the $321million (about N63.24 billion) which the Swiss authorities will be repatriated to Nigeria soon. The agreement, titled “Letter of Intent on the restitution of illegally-acquired assets forfeited in Switzerland,” was signed by Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and the Swiss Head of Foreign Affairs Department, Didier Burkhalter.

Former Delta state governor and one-time Senator of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Felix Ibru, has died. According to family sources, the late Ibru died today March 12th after a brief illness. Until his death, he was the President General of the Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU). He was born on 7 December 1935 at Agbarha-Otor in the Ughelli North local government area of Delta State. He was elected as the first governor of Delta state in 1992 and was also elected a senator in 2003. May his soul rest in peace Amen.

Email inventor Ray Tomlinson dies at 74

The US computer programmer came up with the idea of electronic messages that could be sent from one network to another in 1971. His invention included the ground-breaking use of the @ symbol in email addresses, which is now standard. Tomlinson died of an apparent heart attack on Saturday, according to reports. He sent what is now regarded as the first email while working in Boston as an engineer for research company Bolt, Beranek and Newman. The firm played a big role in developing an early version of the internet, known as Arpanet. However, Tomlinson later said he could not remember what was in that first test message, describing it as "completely forgettable". His work was recognised by his peers in 2012, when he was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame.

Iranian billionaire babak zanjani sentenced to death

Billionaire Iranian businessman Babak Zanjani has been sentenced to death forcorruption, justice officials say. He was arrested in December 2013 after accusations that he withheld billions in oil revenue channelled through his companies. He denies the allegations.Zanjani, 42, was convicted of fraud and economic crimes, a judiciary spokesperson said at a press briefing. One of Iran's richest men, Zanjani was blacklisted by the US and EU for helping Iran evade oil sanctions.Two others were sentenced to death along with him and all were ordered to repay embezzled funds. The ruling can be appealed.In a separate development, a cargo of Iranian crude oil arrived at a Spanish refinery in San Roque on Sunday, the first delivery to an EU state since sanctions were lifted. Obasanjo's son involved in ghastly auto crash in Osun State

Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo's son, Oba Obasanjo, is reported to have been involved in a terrible auto accident earlier today, February 29, 2016. The accident, according to reports, occurred on his way from Ilesha in Osun State, where he had gone to attend the 75th birthday party ceremony of his stepmother, Mabel.
