Fuel scarcity spreads across Nigeria

Image
The ease of getting petrol by motorists and other residents in Kaduna has become more difficult as long queues resurfaced in the state capital and other parts of the state. Correspondent who monitored the situation within the state capital, reported that long queues have taken over the few filling stations in the city, selling the petrol as motorists besiege the outlets to get the product for their respective uses. Motorists and commercial tricycle operators were seen struggling to get into the station as only two out of the ten pumps were dispensing product to customers. As at the time of filing this report, black marketers have resurfaced along major roads and streets, selling petrol above the official pump price. A gallon of petrol sold at N120 per litre as against the N86 per litre. Residents expressed fears that the situation could worsen and affect socio-economic activities if nothing is done by government to address the situation. Virtually all filling stations in the state

City wins capital one cup

Manchester City lifted the League Cup at Wembley after beating Liverpool 3-1 on penalties after the game had finished 1-1 after extra-time. Liverpool had won all five of their previous cup finals that had gone to a shoot-out, but the City goalkeeper – playing in place of Joe Hart in domestic cup competitions this term – saved three penalties to allow Yaya Toure to net the winning spot-kick. In the match itself, Sergio Aguero had forced Simon Mignolet to tip his shot onto the post, but the Liverpool goalkeeper should have kept out Fernandinho's strike from a tight angle early in the second half. City squandered a number of chances to win it in 90 minutes and paid the price when Coutinho powered home late on with Liverpool's first shot on target and extra-time did not produce a winner. But Caballero's star turn means City win the competition for the second time in three seasons and the fourth time overall in what is manager Manuel Pellegrini's final season in charg

CBN target $1 to Π200 in parallel market

The strident calls by the IMF and some foreign interest for Nigeria to devalue its currency and the artificial spike in forex rate created by Bureau De Change operators appears to have tanked. This has been linked to a complex and integrated currency management approaches deployed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).  According to a top source in the apex Bank, “The aim of CBN is to ensure that the divergence between the official and parallel rate does not exceed N3, so we are looking at a parallel market rate of N200/$ because the downward trend in the pressure on the naira will be sustained.” “The CBN has the capacity to sustain the downward pressure and will deploy further currency management initiatives, while capitalising on fiscal policies of the federal government to remain in support of non-devaluation of the Naira. The current stand of the federal government on Nigeria’s legal tender is Non-Devaluation. It will be unwise for anybody to be hoarding dollars because we

The 29-year-old singer said: “I am making plans to do all that but I don’t think I would want people to know anything about it. I will not miss the single life.” The Kukere singer held that a relationship that makes it way into public view has every tendency to fail as a result of undue attention and pressure. He said: “The truth is that once it gets to the hands of the media, we both lose it. But it is not your fault because you are just doing your job. But then, it just takes a negative effect on the relationship. “It puts us on unnecessary pressure. It gives the people who don’t even have the right to talk, an opportunity to interfere even when they don’t know the truth about what is going on. “So from social media, I’ve lea

Iheanacho scores 9th goal of the season

Image
The Nigerian leveled up for the Citizens eight minutes after his introduction but Eriksen’s strike condemned Manuel Pellegrini’s men to a home defeat  Kelechi Iheanacho was on target for Manchester City in their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening. Sterling was harshly adjudged by referee Mark Clattenburg to have handled Rose's cross, allowing Kane to tuck home the opener eight minutes into the second half amid jeers from an angry Etihad crowd. In the second half, Pellegrini then threw caution to the wind as Iheanacho replaced Fernando after the hour and it took little time for the Nigerian to make an impact with his ninth City goal in all competitions. The 19-year-old kept a cool head and calmly side-footed Gael Clichy's cross past a helpless Hugo Lloris 16 minutes from time, only for Eriksen to take advantage of sloppy defending from City to settle the contest in Spurs' favour. However, it was Eriksen – celebrating his 24th birthday – w

Zidane praise Ronaldo for his display against Bilbao

The French coach moved the Portuguese attacker from the centre to the flank for Saturday's match against Athletic and feels the change worked well as they went on to win 4-2. Zinedine Zidane feels Cristiano Ronaldo proved his worth on the wing as he scored twice in 10-man Real Madrid's 4-2 win over Athletic on Saturday. Ronaldo's double helped Madrid negotiate a difficult test against Athletic at the Santiago Bernabeu, which saw the visitors cancel out his early opener through Javier Eraso before Aritz Aduriz rattled the crossbar. James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos scored to make it 3-1 before Raphael Varane's second yellow card, while Ronaldo and Gorka Elustondo were on target in the final stages of an entertaining contest.  'Ancelotti the best coach I've worked with' Ronaldo has often been used centrally at Madrid over the past year but Zidane believes his side were always likely to cause problems with him out wide. Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine,[1] is an annual holiday celebrated on February 14. It originated as a Western Christian liturgical feast day honoring one or more early saints named Valentinus, and is recognized as a significant cultural and commercial celebration in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country. Several martyrdom stories associated with the various Valentines that were connected to February 14 were added to later martyrologies,[2] including a popular hagiographical account of Saint Valentine of Rome which indicated he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire.[3] According to legend, during his imprisonment, Saint Valentine healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius,[4] and before his execution, he wrote her a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a far
