Suarez breaks Ronaldo's goal record for Barcelona
The Uruguayan is now on 49 goals for the season, while the legendary Brazilian struck 47 times in all competitions in the 1996-97 campaign
Luis Suarez has overtaken Ronaldo by reaching 49 goals for the season inBarcelona’s 8-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna.
The Uruguayan scored four and assisted three as Barcelona recovered from their recent run of three straight defeats.
Suarez set a new La Liga record by becoming the first player to have a hand in seven goals in a single game, and the former Liverpool striker has also now surpassed one of Barca’s greats.
Ronaldo scored 47 goals in all competitions for Barca during the 1996-97 campaign but Suarez now stands on 49 goals in the current season - and he still has five games to go.
Suarez still has some way to go to overtake Lionel Messi, who holds the record for Barcelona after scoring 73 goals in the 2011–12 season.
